Nabarangpur: Family members of a woman were forced to carry her dead body on a cycle for cremation after their relatives and other villagers refused to lend shoulders for the last rites in Nabarangpur.

The incident which reminds of the Dana Majhi incident in 2016 has been reported from Moti village under Chandahandi block of the district. As per reports, the woman had been living with her brothers after being abandoned by her husband. But following prolonged illness, she breathed her last on Friday night.

However, instead of offering help, her relatives and other locals refused to participate in the last rites. With no option left, the two brothers carried the body on a cycle to the crematorium ground.

Sources said due to a family feud, the relatives and other villagers did not come forward to help the brothers for the last rites. No comments could be obtained from anyone in connection with the case.

Earlier this month, body of an elderly woman of Gaudaranapada Harijansahi was carried on an inflatable tube in Puri.
