Bhubaneswar: A woman's bid to sell her three-year-old girl child was foiled at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar following the intervention of Childline officials.

As per reports, the woman from Nayagarh district, whose husband has been admitted to the hospital, was trying to sell her girl child to a transgender. However, people present at the hospital raised an alarm and informed the Childline officials.

Later the Childline officials took custody of the woman and questioned her to ascertain the reasons behind her attempts to sell the child. Sources said that the woman was allegedly attempting to sell her child to pay money to the owner of her rented house.

The girl child will be kept at the Subhadra Mahtab Seba Sadan in Kolathia.

“Acting on directive of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the child has been rescued,” said Benudhar Senpati, director, Childline.
