Berhampur: A COVID-19 positive woman on Wednesday delivered twins, a boy and a girl, at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur of Ganjam district.

As per reports, the woman was lodged in a COVID hospital at Sitalapalli after her return from Surat in Gujarat. However, a couple of days ago, she was shifted to the COVID cell in MKCG hospital after her condition deteriorated. She delivered the twins today, but unfortunately, the baby boy died soon after birth.

As per latest reports, the condition of the woman and her surviving child is stated to be stable now. But the child has been shifted to another ward to avoid infection, said MKCG hospital superintendent, S K Mishra.

Earlier yesterday, a Surat returnee woman lodged in a quarantine centre at Mardhakote in Beguniapada block of the district gave birth to a baby boy.

Though doctors and paramedical staff had reached the quarantine centre, they had to shift the woman to MKCG hospital where she later gave birth to the baby boy.

The woman along with her husband was under quarantine since May 6 following return from Surat by a special train.
