Bhubaneswar: Just two months after a Sikh man was murderously attacked in full public glare, an incident of lawlessness has once again come to fore in the capital city with the beating of a woman up by a group of miscreants in broad daylight over reported property dispute in Bindusagar area of Bhubaneswar. The matter came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the video, five miscreants were seen picking up an argument with the woman and subsequently landing blows and kicks on her in the middle of the road. When the frightened woman ran to save herself from the assault, the miscreants chased her and continued to pound her till she managed to escape the attack after running into a house.

Though the brutal attack occurred in the busy street in presence of many people, no passerby came to her rescue, alleged the woman while lodging a complaint at Lingaraj Police Station in this regard.

Speaking to OTV, she said, “I had gone to drop my son to a private tuition when I leant that around 10 youths were pelting stones at my house. When I returned home and protested the move, the miscreants started thrashing me.”

“Many people were passing through the area, but none tried to stop the miscreants from beating me,” she said.

The complainant further alleged that though she had called up the police immediately after the incident, the officials reached the spot after one hour. “Instead of listening to my complaint, the police officials just met the miscreants and returned,” she alleged.

Speaking about the reason of the assault, the woman alleged that the accused persons have acquired their plot illegally and set up a club. “They drink liquor in the club every day and harass our family,” the woman alleged.

She further said her family members are not feeling safe anymore.

“I want the police to arrest the accused immediately and punish them as per the law,” she added.

Later in the day, two accused were arrested in connection with the case.

"There was already a dispute between the members of a club and the woman over a piece of land. The incident aggravated yesterday and took a violent form. We are taking the case seriously and will take action for sure," said Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo.

It can be mentioned here that a Sikh businessman was brutally attacked by three miscreants in front of a PCR van staff in Laxmi Sagar area of the capital city in January this year.
