Woman thrashed by husband for ‘talking over phone’

Jajpur: A woman suffered critical injuries after being thrashed mercilessly by her husband at Panasia under Padmapur area in Jajpur district for allegedly talking over phone on Saturday.

The woman, who received multiple injuries on her body, is now undergoing treatment at Community Health Centre (CHC) in Jajpur Road and her condition is said to critical now.

According to sources, the accused husband identified as Rabi Shankar works in courier company. He reportedly got angry after seeing his wife talking over phone.

Suspecting his wife of having extra marital affair, Rabi snatched her mobile phone and started thrashing her after going through phone call recordings.

“He has been assaulting and torturing me since the past 10 years. However, I do not want to leave him but just want him to quit alcohol,” said the injured woman.

On the other hand, Rabi alleged, “My wife was talking to someone over phone when I reached home and unable to control my anger, I thrashed her.”

On getting information, Jajpur Road police officials rushed to the spot for investigation.

“She has received multiple injuries on her body. We suspect she was also branded with hot iron. However, we have provided necessary primary treatment and kept her under observation. She might be shifted to other hospital for advance treatment, as her condition is still critical,” informed Dr Saubhagya Subudhi, a doctor at the CHC.
