Cuttack: High drama unfolded at Nischintakoili market in the district when a woman thrashed her husband in full public glare after he was caught red-handed with another woman in a compromising position.

According to police, the man identified as Gagan Pradhan of Barua area in Kendrapara district had married one Subhasmita Giri of Pattamundai in the same district. But despite his marriage, he had allegedly been into illicit relationships with several women which often led to quarrel with his wife many times.

Gagan had left home following an argument with his wife three days ago. Today, he was caught by some locals in Nischintakoili market with another woman in a compromising position. Locals beat him up black and blue before informing his first wife Subhasmita about his activities.

“We had a love marriage and had also obtained marriage certificate. We had tied the knot before a local notary,” she said.
“Three days ago he went out of the home and told me to return late. But, today I got an information that he was caught with another woman,” she added.

She further said that her husband had married another woman before wedding her. “So, I am his second wife,” Subhasmita alleged.
The woman who was caught with Gagan refused to comment before media. “I don’t want to comment before the media. I have not committed any mistake. So why should I speak out in public,” she reacted when queried by the reporters.

On the other hand, Gagan admitted to have married both of them. “Police have registered a case. They will investigate and take action accordingly,” Gagan said.

Subhasmita had earlier lodged a complaint at Nikirei police station in Kendrapara accusing her husband of having extra-martial affairs.

Nikirei police Inspector-in-charge Kabuli Barik said “Gagan had married a woman from Pattamundai area. He had inflicted mental and physical torture on her few days after their marriage as he developed an illicit relationship with another woman. His wife had lodged a complaint in this regard and we have registered a case.”
