Berhampur: A woman rescued in critical condition from outside a house near Belgaon under Hinjili police station in Ganjam today morning has alleged that she was beaten up and later thrown out of the house by her in-laws for accusing father-in-law of attempting to establish an illicit relationship with her.

According to reports, the woman was initially rescued by another woman who rushed the former to the nearby hospital. Later, she was referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

“My father-in-law wanted me to have an illicit relation with him. When I complained about it to my mother-in-law, I was physically assaulted by my in-laws. They punched me and kicked me on my stomach,” alleged the woman.

"While returning from temple I found her lying on the roadside. Even though there were people surrounding her nobody helped her. I was the only one to rescue and admit her to the hospital," said the woman who rescued her.

On the other hand, mother of the survivor, Indumati Patra accused the in-laws of torturing her daughter over dowry demands.

"They tortured her only because of dowry. I had even registered a complaint against them but police didn't take any action," Indumati said.

After getting information about the incident, Hinjili police rushed to the spot and detained the father-in-law and mother-in-law of the woman for interrogation.

“The woman was married in the year 2013 and her husband is staying in Mumbai. Earlier, a case of domestic violence was lodged against her in-laws in which her father-in-law was also arrested. A divorce case was also filed in the court,” informed Hinjili police station IIC, Prasanta Kumar.

The IIC further stated that no police complaint has been lodged by the woman or her family members yet.
