Phulbani/Cuttack: One woman cadre Maoist was shot dead in an exchange of fire between Left-Wing Extremists (LWE) and the security forces on Friday informed the Director General (DG) of Odisha Police.

As per reports, firearms and four rounds of bullets and other Maoists articles were recovered from the spot.

A press release issued by the State Police Headquarters stated, "Based on a reliable input, an operation was launched under Gochhapada Police Station in Kandhamal district using two units of SOG and DVF on 9 December 2020."

"During the course of operation an exchange of fire took place on 11December 2020 in the afternoon wherein one lady Maoist Cadre in uniform was neutralized with the recovery of two firearms and four rounds of bullets and other Maoists articles," the release read.

Sources said, the search and combing operation in the area has been intensified.

Taking the opportunity, Police DG Abhay again requested the extremists to shun violence and merge in the mainstream wherein they will be rehabilitated under various government schemes.
