Malkangiri: A CPI (Maoist) woman cadre, carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head, surrendered before the Malkangiri district police today as she wanted to quit the path of violence and return to mainstream.

As per reports, the hardcore woman Maoist leader, Debe Madhi alias Shanti had been an active cadre of the banned outfit between 2008 and 2011.  She was involved in several high-profile cases including cases of violence and murder of innocent people.

However, she laid down her arms before the Malkangiri police on Monday. Shanti will reportedly get Rs 4 lakh along with all other assistance to help her return to mainstream.

Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena said that the developmental works taken up for the all round development and welfare of the people in the region motivated Shanti to surrender.

"Besides, security has been tightened after the construction of Gurupriya bridge and the security forces are carrying out more and more combing operations in the area... This is also one of the reason why she laid down her arms," said Meena.
