Mayurbhanj: The body of a woman lecturer of Rairangpur College in Mayurbhanj district was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room in the women's hostel of the college on Saturday.

On October 30, the deceased lecturer had brought rape allegations against a youth from Keonjhar district, who happens to be her relative, and lodged an FIR at Jharpokharia Police Station.

Alleging murder, family members of the deceased said the youth (the rape accused) threatened her to make the photographs purportedly showing the deceased being raped, viral on social media. As police did not take any action even after repeated requests, the lecturer took the extreme step, alleged a family member of the deceased.

"When I reached the hostel, I saw her body hanging from the fan. She had written something on a piece of paper which was taken by the police officials. We asked them to show it to us but the officials denied. This is a planned murder," said another relative of the lecturer.

"Even after knocking the door several times when she did not respond, we broke open the door and saw her body hanging from the fan," said the hostel warden, Jharana Rout.

On the other hand, police today detained the youth against whom the lecturer had brought rape allegations, from Cuttack. Besides, Jharpokharia IIC was transferred on Sunday over negligence in initiating probing in connection with the case.

Till the last report came in, demanding the piece of paper in which the lecturer had reportedly written something, the family members of the deceased were not allowing the police to take her body for post-mortem.
