Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Hatibari area under Tikarpada Range in Satkosia forest in Angul district today after a woman was allegedly attacked and killed by a tiger.

Sources said a woman identified as Kailashi Say of Hatibari village was killed by a tiger while she had gone out into the woods  early morning today. Family members and locals later spotted her bruised dead body near a nullah.

Irate over the incident, locals vented their anger by torching the forest department’s range office in Tikarpada and the forest beat house in Hatibari.

They also staged a road blockade disrupting vehicular movement between Tikarpada and Angul.

Locals also had an altercation with the CRPF and police officials deployed at the spot.

“We demand that the administration should immediately shift the tiger from the nearby forest to somewhere else,” a relative of the deceased woman said.

Purunakot IIC Bijay Kumar Hybru said police is keeping a close eye on the situation and more officials will be deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
