Woman Demands Death Penalty For Son Who Sacrificed His Own Sister For Sorcery

Bolangir: Days after losing her daughter in the very hands of her own son, a woman of the district has now urged the court of law to pronounce death sentence for the accused son.

One Rukmani Rana of Salebarat village under Sindhikela police has sought capital punishment for her son Sobhaban Rana who sacrificed his sister Janani for sorcery on December 24, 2019.

"I don't want to call him as my son as he did not hesitate to sacrifice my daughter-his own sister. We don't mind if he is hanged," said a crestfallen Rukmani.

Similarly, Sobhaban's father Musaru also said, "I don't want to see him anymore as he sacrificed our daughter in the jungle for black magic."

Sindhikela police had arrested Sobhaban on January 6 after he confessed to have killed his 12-year-old sister to perform human sacrifice in Gujichaka forest on the new moon day on December 24.

According to sources, prior to the incident, Sobhaban was arrested on October 13, 2018 on charges of sacrificing his uncle's son. However, soon after he was released from the jail on bail recently, he sacrificed his own sister to appease goddess Durga for the fulfilment of his wishes.
