Baripada: A woman was allegedly assaulted and forced to wear a garland of shoes by villagers of Nuadihi in Mayurbhanj district for purportedly supporting a youth who has abducted a minor girl of the village. A video of the whole incident has reportedly gone viral on social media.

According to sources, the incident took place in Nuadihi village under Sankhabhanga panchayat on Thursday and surprisingly, the victim has been identified as Sadar block chairman Parbati Hembram.

As per reports, a minor girl was allegedly kidnapped by a youth of nearby Ranibhola village following which the girl's mother had lodged a complaint with the Sadar police.

It has also been alleged that the block chairman had been taking side of the youth and pressurizing the girl's family to not interfere in the matter. The family in their complaint had also alleged that the chairman asked them to marry their daughter with the accused youth.

On Thursday, when the chairman came to the village to discuss the matter, the girl’s mother along with a few other women of the village thrashed her black and blue and later forced her to wear a garland of shoes.

Soon after the incident, both groups lodged complaints against one another at the Sadar Police Station.

“I said I won’t compromise neither I will take my case back. When I said this, they beat me up and then I made her wear the shoe garland,” said the girl’s mother.
