Berhampur: A woman on Sunday alleged that she and her husband were subjected to third degree torture at Bada Bazar police station here in Ganjam district.

The woman met the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) at Berhampur and lodged a complaint over alleged torture in police station.

The complainant Dukhi Nayak said that she and her husband Kabir Nayak were summoned by police for questioning over a family dispute.

As they reached the police station by 3-4 hours late, police thrashed them severely, she alleged.

“Two women police personnel slapped me and forcefully snatched my mobile phone. Later, they dragged me and my husband to a dark room and beat us severely,” Dukhi Nayak said.

She has lodged a complaint in this regard at the ASP demanding action against the erring police officials and also requested the police to release her husband.

Meanwhile, the ASP has ordered a probe into the allegation leveled by the woman and assured her to take necessary action after investigation.

“The complainant alleged that some lady police personnel had beaten her and her husband in the police station. I have directed the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) to investigate the allegation and submit a report. If any police officials are found involved in such act, action would be taken against them,” said ASP Pravat Routray said.

Police had called the woman and her husband following a complaint lodged by her in-laws over a family dispute for inquiry, he added.
