Woman accuses husband, in-laws of torture over dowry

Cuttack: A woman on Sunday lodged a complaint with Kanpur Police in the district alleging torture at the hands of her husband and in-laws.

The woman in her complainant alleged that her husband Bibhu Prasad Nayak, who is working as Subedar in Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) and currently posted at Daitari in Keonjhar district, and her in-laws used to torture her physically and mentally over dowry demand.

With the help of the members of International Human Rights Council, the woman reportedly managed to file the complaint at the Kanpur police station.

"My husband and in-laws threatened me not to have any relationship with them if I don't hand them over my salary. Apart from torturing me mentally, my husband once beat me up when I was at my working place. They used to harass me whenever I visited the house (her in-laws')," alleged the woman.

Meanwhile, Athagarh SDPO Alok Ranjan Ray has assured that the accused will be arrested soon. "An investigation into the matter is underway. I have asked the Investigating Officer and IIC of Kanpur PS to arrest the accused as early as possible," he said.
