Bhubaneswar: A day after announcing the extension of closure of schools till December 31, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Saturday directed the president of the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) to scrap the notification on form fill-up of matric examinations which was released on November 5.

As per reports, many students, parents and teachers criticised the decision of the Board citing that it is unfair to think of conducting matric exams and start preparations for the same when classes are yet to commence in a full-fledged manner.

The government on Friday announced that all schools in Odisha will remain closed till December 31, 2020, keeping in view the experience of a second wave of Covid-19 infection in some states.

"The department held extensive consultations with various stakeholders and their inputs were taken. Further, the experience of the states where schools had reopened and the fact that a second wave of Covid-19 cases being experienced in some states was noted. Therefore, the state government do hereby direct that all schools in the state shall remain closed till December 31, 2020," an order of the department stated.

However, the government allowed the conduct of examinations (academic, competitive and entrance tests), evaluation and other administrative activities. This apart, online and distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged.
