Bhubaneswar: At a time when cold wave continued to grip several parts of Odisha, the Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar predicted that temperature is likely to fall further in interior and coastal districts of the State from December 31 i.e. New Year's eve.

The Met Centre said that minimum temperature (Night temperature) might fall by 3 to 4 degree Celsius over the interior districts of Odisha while it may plummet by 2 to 3 degree Celsius over coastal Odisha districts of the State from tomorrow.

A yellow warning for cold wave condition has been issued at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal on December 31.

"Dry weather to prevail in the State for next five days and shallow to moderate fog might occur at some places. There will be no large change in minimum temperature over the districts of Odisha during next 24 hours and it will fall by 3-4 degree Celsius over the districts of interior Odisha and 2-3 degree Celsius over the districts of Coastal Odisha thereafter," said Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director, HR Biswas on Tuesday evening.

On the other hand, severe cold wave conditions dense fog has thrown normal life out of gear in Sonepur districts.

As a result, people in most parts of the district are preferring to stay indoors and taking to bonfires to keep themselves warm. The motorists are also facing difficulties as dense fog engulfed the region till 9 AM.

"I used to go for morning walk from 5 AM but now it's difficult to come out of the house at even 7 AM," said a local of Lahunipada in Sonepur district.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha for next four days:

Day 1 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 30.12.2020 upto 0830 hrs IST of 31.12.2020): Dry weather most likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be updated): Cold wave condition likely at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh & Kandhamal.

Impact and Action Suggested:

  • An increased likelihood of various illnesses which usually set in or get aggravated during to prolonged exposure to cold. Stay indoor during night and avoid early morning walk in outside.
  • Livestock may be affected to due to prolong exposure to cold. Do arrangement to keep livestock in shaded/indoor area.

Day 2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 31.12.2020 upto 0830 hrs IST of 01.01.2021): Dry weather most likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.
