Wedding Gift Blast: Accused Punjilal Meher hospitalised

Bolangir: The prime accused in Patnagarh wedding gift blast case, Punjilal Meher was admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College in Bolangir after he fell sick reportedly due to prolonged starvation. Punjilal, who is on a hunger strike for the last 10 days, today denied his role in the alleged escape bid at Patnagarh jail. He alleged that the authorities are falsely implicating him.

Earlier, Punjilal was accused of masterminding a jailbreak attempt along with other inmates lodged in Patnagarh jail in January. The prisoners had allegedly tried to escape from the jail after Punjilal instigated them. However, such attempts were foiled after the alarm went off.

“I had never tried to escape from jail. All the inmates had written to SDPO and other authorities to ascertain the truth. I launched a hunger strike as no step was taken in this regard,” said Punjilal.

Mitali Mishra, doctor at Bhima Bhoi Medical Hospital informed that the condition of Punjilal Meher is stable while necessary treatment is being provided to him at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities could not be contacted over Punjilal’s allegations.
