Bhubaneswar: Respite from heat wave conditions is not expected in Odisha for next two days even though monsoon winds made onset in the State last week. According to the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre forecast, almost all parts of Odisha will receive rainfall from June 30.

The meteorological department has said that in the next 48 hours, day time temperatures in interior parts of the State will hover around 40 degrees Celsius while coastal Odisha will experience 36-38 degrees Celsius.

“However, thunderstorm activity accompanied by rain is expected in Nupada, Bolangir, Angul, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Jajpur, Khurda and Cuttack districts during this time,” Laxmidhar Mohapatra, meteorologist of IMD's regional centre said.

"After June 30, rainfall will occur at most places of the State with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts," said Mohapatra.

Speaking on rainless start to the monsoon this season, Mohapatra said that erratic movement of the monsoon trough line and weak low pressure formed over Bay of Bengal has failed to activate monsoon rainfall in the State in the past few days.
