Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Center in Bhubaneswar on Monday issued heavy rain alert for five districts--Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur & Bargarh.

Besides, Puri and Khurda will also experience heavy rain as the well-marked low pressure area lies over north coastal Odisha and its neighbourhood, informed met office sources.

As per the senior scientist of the Regional Metrological Department, Sachikant, the system is likely to move west-northwards across Central India.

"Already several parts of Odisha have witnessed heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours with Bhawanipatna recording highest 30 cm rain, followed by 201 mm in Puri and 123 mm in Bhubaneswar," said a senior met department official.

Another low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood around 19th July.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupad Sethi informed that over 12 districts in Odisha received 50 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

"Keeping in view the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department, we had put all collectors on alert. Though there are some reports of small nullahas, culverts and roads getting washed away, there is absolutely no flood threat as of now," said Sethi.
