Bhubaneswar: The weather will take a hostile turn in Odisha. While the State will experience this winter's first cold to severe cold wave conditions during next 48 hours, especially tomorrow (December 28), the more damp prediction is the rain forecast for Odisha from the New Year day.

As per latest weather bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for severe cold wave for tomorrow in some pockets in Odisha, especially districts adjoining Jharkhand and West Bengal.

“Both day and night time temperature will drop by 4 to 6 degree Celsius across Odisha tomorrow. We have issued cold wave warning for some districts,” said HR Biswas, Met Director Bhubaneswar, and added that districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Angul and Mayurbhanj will bear the brunt.

In another dampening forecast made today, the IMD predicts rain from the New Year Day, which clearly clouds the New Year festivities in the State.

The latest weather bulletin says, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm is likely to occur in several places of north interior Odisha and at a few places across the State during January 1 to January 3, 2020.

"The rainfall activity will be mainly due to interaction between Western Disturbance and lower level easterlies from December 31, 2019,"said Biswas.

As per weather charts, Sundergarh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 27 degree Celsius and also the lowest minimum temperature of 10.5 degree C during the last 24 hours.

The foggy weather to continue as local met director predicts dense fog at isolated places for districts in North interior Odisha,Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda, Sonepur and Kalahandi.

One comforting prediction, however, is dry weather will prevail from tomorrow to till the last day of 2019.
