Bhubaneswar: The weather department today issued lightning and rainfall alert for several districts of the State. According to a fresh notification issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, as many as 11 districts of the State are likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity.

People living in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Nabarangpur have been asked to stay alert till 1.30 pm in view of the inclement weather.

The weatherman has predicted that the State is likely to witness another spell of heavy downpour for the next few days due to fresh low pressure taking shape over Bay of Bengal following a cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts.

The MeT centre has also issued an "orange warning" for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts where heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places on Monday and Tuesday.

In addition, a "yellow warning" with heavy rainfall forecast was issued for Bolangir, Boudh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Puri Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Khordha districts from September 2 to 3.

Odisha has recorded a rainfall deficit of 2 per cent so far.
