Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here in Bhubaneswar has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Odisha. As per the latest weather bulletin, the low pressure system over north Bay of Bengal has intensified and it will trigger heavy rainfall in several parts of north and southern Odisha in the next 24 hours.

“Several places in coastal, north and southern Odisha including Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada and Kandhamal will experience heavy rainfall,” said Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, duty officer Gauranga Charan Behera.

Behera further informed that due to the formation of the low pressure system, the southwest monsoon has covered several parts of north and southern Odisha. The monsoon is expected to cover remaining parts of the State including Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Nuapada and Bolangir in the next 24 hours.

“As the arrival of monsoon was delayed, the intensity of rainfall in the month of June will be low. However, the rainfall activity in Odisha is expected to increase in July and August,” Behera.
