Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain under the impact of active south-west monsoon continued to batter parts of Odisha, affecting life and causing several rivers to be in spate.

The water level of several major rivers including Nagabali and Bansadhara in Rayagada district has seen an upward trend. Official sources said Bansadhara River, currently flowing at 82.32 meters, has neared the danger level marked at 84 meters.

Normal life has also been adversly affected in Kalahandi district due to heavy rain triggered by low-pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy downpour in Thuamul Rampur and Bhawanipatna has paralysed normal life as road communication to interior areas of the district has been completely disrupted, sources said.

Flood situation is likely to aggravate as five gates of Hati barrage of Indravati project have been opened, added sources.

There are also reports of damage in other parts of Odisha due to heavy rain. A road and a culvert at Madangi under Kotagada block in Kandhamal district has been washed away following which communication between Kotagada and Subargiri was snapped.

In Kendrapara district, 20 houses were damaged due to heavy rain and thunderstorm that lashed Mahakalpada block Friday night. Besides, three persons have also been injured in Mahanagala village.
