Nabarangpur: Villagers of Sargiguda under Kodinga police limits in the district strapped two drunk youths to poles and thrashed them for breaking the rules of the village on Thursday.

According to sources, locals of the village who are very strict against sale of liquor and entry of anyone into the area in drunken state caught two persons fully inebriated On Thursday.

The duo bore the brunt of the villagers’ ire as they tied them to a pole for long hours. The matter came to fore after a video of the incident went viral.

The youths were later rescued from the anger of the villagers thanks to the intervention of Kodinga Police.

“Liquor preparation and sale is forbidden in our village. The entry of drunkards is also prohibited in the area. The two persons were punished for violating the rules,” a villager said.

Kodinga Police however warned the villagers not to take the law into their own hands after releasing the drunkards.

“I advised the villagers to report in the police station if anybody creates any nuisance after drinking but they have no right to punish,” stated SI of the local police station, Sarita Mohapatra.

Police sources said that no case has been registered in this connection. Kodinga police has only listed the incident in the station diary.
