Baripada: A house in Madhuban Talasahi of Baripada Town in Mayurbhanj district collapsed on Wednesday morning following heavy rainfall in the region.

The incident took place at around 9 am. The house belonged to one SK Sadam of the area. However, no casualties were reported in the mishap.

Reports said, the local administration had ordered for the demolition of the house and as building was uninhabited, no was injured during the incident.

Excessive rainfall since Tuesday under the influence of a fresh low pressure system over North Bay of Bengal has triggered flood-like situation in Baripada and several other low lying areas of the town.

As per data received from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Baripada has recorded 206 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. The incessant rainfall has triggered a deluge in Baripada with rise in water level in Jarali and Sarali rivers.

Flood water from Budhabalanga River also entered into riverside areas of the town including Madhuban Talasahi forcing more than 20 families to evacuate.

Local Tehsildar, sub-collector and ADM visited the areas to take stock of the situation, added reports.

State Met Office has issued heavy rainfall alert for Puri, Khurda, Angul, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal.
