Bhubaneswar: A sinister Naxal plot was foiled by security forces when a powerful landmine planted on the Chaibasa-Goleikera Road near the Jharkhand border in Singhbhum district was detected in the nick of time.

According to reports, a CRPF team discovered the massive landmine which was planted in the middle of the road during a road clearance operation with the help of metal detectors. The powerful explosive device was ostensibly meant to blow up vehicles carrying CRPF personnel who have launched a combing operation in the area.

Following the detection of the device, it was successfully diffused.

The impact of the explosion was so powerful and destructive that it could have easily blown off the security vehicle/s into pieces if it was not found on time.

The narrow road where the explosive was found runs in a forested area near the Odisha-Jharkhand border, far away from any human settlement. There could have been heavy casualty among security forces in case of an explosion as medical aid could not have reached on time.

Meanwhile, the CRPF team resumed the combing operations to track down the ultras who are suspected to be hiding in the forest.
