Berhampur: Incessant rain, triggered by the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal (BoB), has battered many areas in the southern parts of the State.

Due to the heavy rains service roads near an under-construction bridge at Badagada in Bhanjanagar have been completely washed away, snapping connection between Berhampur and Badagada.

Similarly, life has been thrown out of gear in Gajapati district since last 24 hours owing to the heavy downpour. Mohana block has recorded the highest 142 millimetres of rain fall during this period. Around two-foot high water is flowing over the Atharanala bridge, disconnecting five panchayats of the block from the main land.
As per sources, a flood like situation may arise if the heavy rain continues.
