Bhubaneswar: Two Anganwadi workers have become role models for the society by swimming across a dangerous flooded river for the sake of their duties in Malkangiri district.

The Anganwadi workers have been identified as Hemalalta Sisa and Pramila Penel of Raniguda Pachayat under Chitrakonda village in the tribal-dominated district.

During rainy season most of the areas in Raniguda Pachayat are cut off from other parts due to the flooded river. But the hostile condition could not deter the spirit of Hemalata and Pramila. They braved the flooded river by putting their lives in danger and swam across to serve women and children in Suapali and Nerudipali villages.

The dedication of both the Anganwadi workers who put their lives in danger for the cause of service has earned laurels from all quarters in the area.

“I am working as an Anganwadi worker in Nerudipali centre. Every year during the rainy season our village gets isolated from the mainland because of flood in the river. We have no alternative left but to swim the river and do our duty in our centre, situated on the other side,” stated Hemalata.

Pramila also lamented over their difficulties. “Every year we have to put our lives at stake to earn our livelihood. The river is always deluged and situated in the Andhra-Odisha border. We are helpless,” said Pramila.
