Sambalpur: A 90-year-old woman, admitted to a hospital here after testing positive for the virus recuperated from the lethal disease in just 10 days. Despite having other health complications, she has managed to defeat the virus and was congratulated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik following her recovery here on Tuesday.

The nonagenarian Shehnaz Begum from Samchalak area of Sambalpur battles with a number of health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and other heart-related diseases. She was being attended by her daughter-in-law, who herself is an asthma patient. However, the latter tested negative for COVID-19 after testing.

According to reports, Shehnaz was admitted to a nearby COVID Hospital after her oxygen levels dropped when she was under home isolation, as advised. Post recovery, she was discharged from the hospital after 10 days of necessary treatment.

"The hospital was clean, hygienic and the staff were well-behaved. They sanitized the wards at regular intervals and provided good care and treatment to the COVID-19 patients," said her daughter-in-law.

"We had very little hope that our mother will return home with us, given her age and health complications and the numerous deaths that we witnessed at the hospital when she was admitted. Thankfully, she survived and we are grateful," said Shehnaz's son on her miraculous recovery.
