Bolangir: It rained barely for a couple of days, but it unleashed havoc in the entire Bolangir town of Odisha. Surprisingly, the district, which was staring at a drought-like situation a few days ago, in no time, witnessed a flood-like situation. Communication was snapped, several places were marooned (though for a short period) and people had no idea as to what all had happened all of a sudden.

Surprised, people, throughout the entire day (Tuesday) put all their efforts and tried hard to fight the nature's wrath. Several kuchha houses got washed away, schools, hospitals, residential buildings, and government offices were flooded by rainwater giving no time to local administration to supply relief materials or extend any kind of help to people.

Now the question arises, what led to such a situation in Bolangir town? Is RAIN the only culprit or it was like a man-made disaster? Locals alleged that the project on Laxmi Jor Setu in Bolangir town is the main reason behind the flood-like situation in the region.

"It can be called as a man-made flood because water couldn't get released through the check dam on Laxmi Jor Setu following which the entire area got flooded," alleged Lalit Nayak, a local social activist.

While the concerned officials couldn't be contacted to comment on the allegations of people, Special Relief Commissioner of Odisha, Bishnupada Sethy said, "When it rains heavily, water discharge takes time. It was for the first time that such a situation occurred in Bolangir."
