Sambalpur: The authorities of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla have deducted the salary of as many as 61 faculty members for preventing normal academic atmosphere in the varsity campus by resorting to agitation demanding ouster of Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Atal Chaudhuri.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Registrar of the VSSUT on Wednesday. According to the directive, the university administration has ordered a pay cut of three days of these faculty members which include several professors, associate and assistant professors.

Worth mentioning, the faculty members of VSSUT have been on strike since July 17 demanding ouster of VC Atal Chaudhuri over his alleged indifferent attitude towards the development of the varsity.

On August 26, four teachers including two professors- PK Pradhan and Devbrat Dhupal and Associate Professor Sasmita Padhee and Assistant Professor Santosh Majhi were suspended for provoking the faculty members to shout slogans against the authorities and defaming the university.

Earlier, the university had suspended two faculties and terminated another on grounds of preventing classes, stopping evaluation of papers and instigating teachers to stage demonstration.
