Burla: Examinations scheduled to be held today at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) here in Sambalpur district have been postponed till further order.

This was informed by the the Vice Chancellor Bibhuti Bhushan Pati through a notification. Decision to put exams on hold was taken after a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in the campus, he added.

"Based on the present pandemic situation in different halls of residence of VSSUT, the examination scheduled on 01.03.2021 is hereby postponed. The date fr the examinations will be notified further," the notification read.

The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation has also declared shutdown in the university campus and its adjacent areas after 29 students tested positive for the Covid-19.

Pulaha, Pulastya, Atri, Kratu, Vasistha, Marich, Anuradha, Arundhati, Rohini, Visakha and Vasundhara hostels of the university have been declared the containment zone. The adjacent areas of Pulaha hostel have been declared buffer zone.

Students have vacated hostels after restrictions were put in place.

Some areas coming under the university have been declared as micro containment zones.

Only essential activities are allowed in the micro containment zone. Public movement has been restricted in the containment zones.

Suspected students suffering from cold and influenza have been kept under isolation.

Police and administrative officers have kept a close watch on the varsity and its adjacent areas.
