Kendrapara: What would you do when tubewell starts spitting fire instead of water? Such a bizarre incident has now become the talk of the town in Kalabuda village under Gadarpur block in Kendrapara district.

According to reports, one Maguni Charan Sahoo had dug up a tubewell in his home to deal with the water crisis issue in the area.

However, the family members were taken aback after the tubewell suddenly caught fire during a religious ceremony on Friday. Sahoo immediatelly called the fire services department which swung into action and doused the flames.

Wife of Sahoo, Kalpana said, "The incident occured when the priest was conducting the puja when we noticed flames in the tubewell. Out of fear, we ran out of the house."

It is suspected that such incident occured due to presence of some natural gas beneath the earth's surface.

Meanwhile, the sarpanch of the village Prasanta Sahoo said that the incident has sparked fear among the villagers.

"WE request the State government to look into the matter and clarify if there is any source of natural gas here," he added.

It is worth mentioning that in April 2016, a similar incident was reported from Mathasahi village in the district where a tubewell started emitting gaseous substances instead of water after 50m of digging.
