Bhubaneswar: As many as 52 disproportionate asset cases and 84 misappropriation cases have been registered so far in 2019, revealed Director of Odisha Vigilance, Debasish Panigrahi on Friday.

While addressing a function at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar marking the observance of Vigilance awareness week, Panigrahi said, “In 2019 till October 31, the state vigilance has registered 250 criminal cases against 418 persons. And of these 250 cases, 52 are of DA.”

“During this period, 84 misappropriation cases relating to misappropriation of public money have been registered against 213 persons, including 148 public servants and 65 civilians,” added Panigrahi.

Responding to the number of arrests made this year, Panigrahi said, “Total 159 persons were arrested during this period, which included 21 class-I officers, 19 class-II officers, 103 class-III employees and five class-IV employees. “

According to Debasish Panigrahi, the forest wing of vigilance conducted 107 joint raids with the help of local forest officials and seized timber, machineries and vehicles worth Rs 4.04 crore (approx.).

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also graced the occasion and felicitated meritorious police and vigilance officers. Counting his government’s achievements in the vigilance awareness programme, Patnaik said, “All of us know my government’s resolve to counter corruption on the top of 5T initiative for the delivery of public goods and services. My government has taken a number of steps to strengthen the vigilance machinery in the state.”
