Jeypore: Vigilance sleuths arrested Malkangiri Civil Supplies Officer Abhimanyu Mohanty after unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 1.91 lakh was allegedly recovered from his car on Saturday.

Acting on a tip off, a team of Vigilance department from Koraput division intercepted Mohanty's vehicle at Baipariguda while he was on his way to Berhampur from Malkangiri. They recovered cash worth Rs 1.91 lakh from him and Rs 20,000 from his driver.

The anti-corruption team arrested the Civil Supplies Officer after he failed to give satisfactory explanation about the seized cash. Later, Vigilance sleuths also conducted simultaneous searches at Mohanty's office and residence in Malkangiri and parental house in Berhampur.

"We intercepted his vehicle at Baipariguda while he was going to Berhampur and seized Rs 1,91, 140 from him. There are allegations of disproportionate assets against him," informed Vigilance DSP Sushant Kumar Biswal.

The Civil Supplies Officer, on the other hand, claimed that the cash doesn't belong to him and there is no truth behind such allegations.
