Bhadrak: A video of three students of a primary school being punished by their headmistress in-charge in Dhamnagar area of Bhadrak has raised serious question on government's commitment to provide a punishment-free environment in schools across the State.

The video, that was reportedly shot on Friday shows three students; one girl from Class one and two other boys respectively from Class two and Class three kneeling down on the premises of Padmapokhari Primary school under Dhamnagar block of the district.

As per reports, the headmistress in-charge Sagarika Rout made them kneel down after the trio allegedly fought with each other for some reason while consuming mid-day meal. Enraged over the noisy altercation, Rout made the children kneel down in the open for more than half-an-hour.

Following the incident, Rout was suspended by the Block Education Officer(BEO).

The incident has drawn flak from different quarters after video of the punishment went viral on social media.

No comments could be obtained from the school authorities regarding the matter.
