Jagatsinghpur: In a major crackdown on the illegal sale of liquor, Naugaon Police seized a vehicle carrying 50 boxes of liquor at Gothada village in Jagatsinghpur on Sunday.

According to reports, during a routine check-up, cops seized nearly 440 litres of foreign and country-made liquor bottles packed in 50 cartons. However, police could not arrest anyone as those who were in the vehicle fled the spot.

A case has been registered at Naugaon Police station and efforts are on to identify the owner of the vehicle and people involved in the transportation of the liquor bottles, said sources.

Speaking about the incident, Jagatsinghpur SDPO, Prakash Chandra Pal said, "Police seized 438.3 litres of both foreign liquor and country-made liquor. Based on the document of the seized vehicle we are hopeful of identifying its owner and get lead in the case."

A police investigation is currently underway.
