Bhubaneswar: Youth Congress activists held a unique protest at the Master Canteen square on Monday against the unprecedented hike in vegetable prices which has put households across the state to hardship during the festive season.

The party activists, wearing garlands made of vegetables raised slogans against the Odisha government and the Centre holding them responsible for the inflationary situation, before burning effigies of the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Prime Minister to mark their protest.

“Even as the entire mankind is faced with a disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities and vegetables has compounded the miseries of the common man,” said Smruti Ranjan Lenka, President, State Youth Congress.

Lenka alleged that the Congress party has condemned the anti-farmer and anti-people policies of both the Centre and Odisha government ‘who are working hand-in-gloves’.

“Odisha government’s potato and onion missions have failed and the cold storage facilities have failed to benefit the farmers. Both Centre and Odisha government are hoodwinking people. The prices of essential commodities will rise in the coming days due to the farm laws which we are protesting,” said Lenka.
