Berhampur: A jeweller was arrested from Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly buying gold ornaments which were looted from two shops at Badabazar area of Ganjam district.

The jeweller was identified as Devendra Soni. About 600 gram of stolen gold ornaments were seized from his possession.

After his arrest, the police brought the accused on transit remand and produced him in a court here.

The case pertains to burglaries of Binod Jewellery Shop and Keshav Jewellery Shop in Badabazar area on October, 30, 2020 and December 17, 2020.

Earlier on December 27, a police team led by Badabazar IIC had arrested two youths having criminal antecedence from Durg district of Chhattisgarh in connection with the robberies.

Probe officials had recovered Rs 12, 07,060 cash (sale proceed of stolen ornaments), gold ornaments weighing 168.06 grams, a car (purchased from the sale proceed) and a portable grill cutter from the accused.
