Bhubaneswar: A day after the Centre allowed opening of gymnasiums outside containment zones from August 5 as part of graded reopening of the economy under Unlock 3, All Odisha Gym Association on Thursday urged Odisha government to allow opening of the fitness centres in the State.

"Boosting immunity is crucial to fight Coronavirus and there is no alternative to regular exercise. So, we hope the State government will consider our plea and also allow gyms to operate in the State," said Satyajit, president of the association.

He also urged the State government to take into account the livelihood of the gym trainers and other thousands of staff engaged in fitness centres across the State while considering their plea.

Besides, the gym owners in the State said that they will strictly adhere to COVID-19 norms like the use of face coverings and social distancing guidelines.

COVID19 precautions to keeps gyms safe

- Slot booking to avoid overcrowding

- Limit membership depending on the size of gym

- Thermal screening at the entry point of gyms

- Mandatory use of masks & hand gloves

- Social distancing inside the centres

- Sanitisation at regular intervals

Fitness experts believe that operation of gyms could help people stay fit which could play an important preventive role. Gyms and other fitness centres across India have been shut due to COVID-19 lockdown since March while restrictions on shopping malls and restaurants were eased in June.
