Keonjhar: A day after the Additional District Judge (ADJ) court handed death penalty to one Sunil Nayak, lodged at Keonjhar Jail, in connection with the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl, another inmate of the jail accused in rape charges died of cardiac arrest Friday morning.

The deceased under-trial prisoner Turi Munda was arrested in connection with the rape of a minor girl.

Though the exact cause behind Munda’s death will be ascertained in post-mortem report, jail authorities suspect that he suffered a stroke due to mental duress after Nayak was given the death sentence yesterday.

As per reports, Mundu was having breakfast at around 10.50 AM today when he fell unconscious. Subsequently, he was rushed to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Keonjhar Jail Superintendent, Gariba Sahoo, said, “He (Munda) was accused in a case under POCSO Act. He seemed fine and healthy and did his chores like he used to do regularly. Yesterday, another inmate of the jail accused in a POCSO Act case was awarded death punishment. This could be the reason of his stress. After investigation, the exact reason behind his death will be known."
