Nayagarh: An undertrial prisoner (UTP) managed to escape from Nayagarh Sub-Jail on Sunday raising security concerns at jails across the State.

The accused, identified as Himanshu Nayak, was lodged in the jail in connection with a dacoity case. The matter came to the fore after the jail authorities lodged a complaint at Nayagarh Sadar Police Station in this regard.

As per reports, Nayak was arrested by the police on July 7 and sent to Nayagarh Sub-Jail after his bail plea was rejected by a court in the district.

Meanwhile, police have initiated a probe into the incident and are investigating the footage of CCTV cameras installed on the jail premises.

On August 3, another UTP identified as Tapan Rout, a rape accused lodged at Khandapada Sub Jail in Nayagarh district had managed to escape after scaling the boundary wall of the jail.
