Lingaraj Temple
Bhubaneswar: Putting an end to the uncertainty over the observance of the famous Jagar Yatra of Lord Lingaraj, servitors on Wednesday promised full cooperation for the smooth conduct of rituals at the temple on Mahashivratri tomorrow.
"'Mahadipa' will be raised atop the temple in time during the holy festival tomorrow," said Biranchi Pati, President of Barahman Nijoga.
The development came after the standoff among some servitor groups was resolved following a meeting between the representatives of sevayat groups, Khordha Collector, who is the executive officer of the temple trust board and the Endowment Commissioner on Wednesday.
"The issue has been resolved amicably and the rituals of the Lord have started. Jagara Yatra will be observed in the temple as per the age old tradition," said Pati.
The temple administration has also decided to start the Handi Bhanga tradition which has been suspended for a long time.
"We have discussed with the servitors to start the Handi Bhanga tradition again. They have assured to extend their full cooperation. The suspended tradition along with Mahashivratri will be observed this year in a low key manner in pursuance with the Covid-19 guidelines," said Khordha Collector Sanat Kumar Mohanty.
According to the temple administration sources, the devotees can offer diyas (lamps) in the premises of the temple on Mahashivratri evening with strict adherence to the Covid-19 norms. The devotees can pay obeisance to the Lord at the temple by standing in a row, wearing masks and maintaining social distance.
