Uncertainty looms over functioning of Malkangiri B.Ed College

Malkangiri: Resentment has been growing among the students of Malkangiri as they have been deprived of pursuing higher education at the newly built B.Ed College.

They have alleged that though the building construction of the college was completed two years ago, classes are yet to begin at the college.

Sources said that the college has been constructed by State government at the cost of Rs 10 crore.

“I had dreamt of pursuing B.Ed here at the college. But it has remained a wish only. Like me, many others have been barred from pursuing the higher education due to the non-functioning of the college. Above all, the State government is not paying any heed to our demands,” Basant Nayak, a local.

Echoing similar views another local Amarendra Das said, “Work on the college began in 2015 and the Chief Minister inaugurated the building last year. However, classes are yet to begin here. I had been pinning hope on this college for higher education after passing out graduation in 2015.”

Meanwhile, Malkangiri PA, ITDA Ramakrushna Ganda stated it is the responsibility of the School and Mass Education department to make the B.Ed College functional. But due to the delay in the approval from National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the college is yet to function.

“Usually, the School and Mass Education department looks after the recruitment and management of the B.Ed Colleges. The School and Mass Education had written to NCTE for the permission. But as the approval is pending the B.Ed College could not run,” Ganda said.
