Bhubaneswar: The election to the urban bodies in the State will be held within four months after the completion of delimitation and reservation of wards by the Odisha government, said State Election Commission secretary Rabindranath Sahu on Thursday.

Talking to media, Sahu said, “The State government is responsible for delimitation and reservation of wards, while the election commission is responsible of conducting the polls. Once the State government completes the process, we will prepare the voters' list for conducting the elections.”

Recently, Odisha had conducted by-polls to the Balasore Sadar and Tirtol Assembly constituencies in which the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) emerged victorious in both the seats.

In Tirtol, BJD’s Bijaya Shankar Das won the by-polls by a margin of 41703 votes from BJP’s Rajkishore Behera. Das secured 88310 votes while BJP’s Rajkishore Behera secured 46607 votes and Congress candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick garnered 28778 votes.

Similarly, in Balasore Sadar constituency, BJD’s Swarup Kumar Das won by a margin of  13351 votes against BJP’s Manas Kumar Dutta. Das secured 84097 votes while Dutta got 70746 votes and Congress candidate Mamata Kundu bagged 4983 votes.
