Angul/Sambalpur: Two persons including an elderly woman were killed in elephant attack in separate incidents in Angul and Sambalpur districts on Thursday.

Mamata Sethy, a resident Talagarh under Bantala police limits in Angul district had gone to a mango orchard in the night to collect mangoes. Suddenly, an elephant appeared in the night while she was collecting mango. The jumbo trampled her to death.

Family members launched a search and finally found her mutilated body in the orchard.

Forest official reached the spot to take stock of the situation. Mild tension prevailed in the village following the death of the woman.

In another incident, a man came on the way of an elephant at Jaripani village near Luhapanka panchayat under Rairakhol range in Sambalpur district. Dhanu Dehury of Mahulapal in Angul district had gone to Luhapanka in search of his missing cow while a jumbo dragged him with its trunk and mauled him to death at a nearest forest.

After killing the man, the elephant stood near the body for quite sometimes, giving a tough task to the forest officials to recover the body.

The body has not been recovered till the last report came in.
