Two Surrendered Maoists Tie Knot In Odisha

Angul: Once in the most wanted list of Odisha Police, two Maoist commanders tied the nuptial knot after bidding goodbye to Left Wing Extremism in the State.

The surrendered Maoists, identified as Chotu Gonju and Joly Dehuri got married at Chandaneswar Shiva temple at Majhipada in Angul district. Their marriage was solemnised as per Vedic rituals.

According to sources, Chotu hails from Jharkhand while Joly is a native of Majhipada in Angul. Chotu joined the Maoist organisation at a very young age and led the rebel outfit in Sundergarh, Deogarh and Sambalpur division.

He was busy in strengthening the Maoist base in Angul when he came in contact with Joly who also joined hands with him. However, as their love blossomed and the Maoist organisation posed a threat to their relationship, both of them decided to quit the extremism. Finally in 2018, the duo left the Maoist organisation and surrendered before the police.

After government-assisted rehabilitation programme, both of them gradually returned to the mainstream of the society.

Meanwhile, the families of the couple have expressed happiness over their decision to tie the sacred bond. The villagers also extended support and attended the marriage in large number.

“I fell in love with her when I used to visit her village. Then she asked me for marriage on which I agreed and we finally tied the knot,” said Chotu.

Similarly, Northern Central range DIG Narasingha Bhol said the relationship between the two is an inspiration for those willing to leave Maoist organisation and join the mainstream.
