New Delhi: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has bestowed Gangadhar Hembram and Japani Majhi of Odisha with a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity as the duo has been selected to represent the tribal community at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26 and beating the retreat ceremony.

They have received an invitation for a 10-day stay at the national capital during which they are also scheduled to meet President of India, Vice-President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers.

While Gangadhar belongs to Hatisahi village under Dhanaghera panchayat of Khunta block in Mayurbhanj district, Japani is a resident of Hutapur village under Santara panchayat Betanati block.

"It is a pride feeling that we have got the opportunity to sit with VIPs at the Rashtrapati Bhawan gallery and witness RD Parade Live in New Delhi. I'm also excited to witness the Odisha tableau replicating the art and architecture of Lingaraj Temple and Rukuna Rath which has been shortlisted for participation in the RD Parade. We were eagerly waiting for a chance and finally, we have got one. I would also like to thank CM Naveen Patnaik for giving us that chance," expressed Japani while speaking to OTV.

"During our stay, we will also visit PM's residence for a Tea Party and discussion with Narendra Modi. I would like to highlight the tribal art and culture so that we can take it to greater heights and work for the overall development of the community," added Japani.

An elated Gangadhar said, "Marching of the three wings of the Armed Forces is a sight to behold. What I was watching on TV all this while, I am going to witness Live. I'd love to experience and cherish this opportunity. As far as the development of Santali community is concerned, I would request the PM to set up a Santali University. Also, Santali should be included in the syllabus from Class-1 to University level."
