Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: On the auspicious occasion of August Kranti Divas,  two freedom fighters from Odisha will attend the ‘At Home’ function to be hosted by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. The invited dignitaries from Odisha are Sahadeb Behera (96) from Nayagarh and Nilamani Samal (90) from Jajpur.

Principal Resident Commissioner of Government of Odisha Tuhin Kanta Pandey felicitated both the veteran nonagenarians at the Odisha Bhawan after their arrival in New Delhi on Thursday.

Speaking on being invited for the special occasion Nilamani Samal said, "I am extremely happy for receiving the felicitation."

Similarly, Sahadeb Behera also expressed his happiness and said that he was gratified for being called for the reception.

On August 9, 1942 the Quit India Movement or Bharat Chhodo Andolan was started under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. This movement holds a special relevance in the history of India as it is considered as a significant development that helped India to earn back its freedom from British Raj. The day has been named as August Kranti Divas since then.

To remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters, every year On August 9 the country celebrates August Kranti Divas. On this day, freedom fighters from across the country are invited to Rashtrapati Bhawan to attend the 'At Home' function hosted by the President of India.
